With its advanced rotor design, the Bluecopter from Airbus Helicopters uses significantly less fuel and creates much less noise than typical rotorcraft.
The Bluecopter produces only 10 decibels of effective perceived noise (EPNdB), which is well below the decibel level of any other rotorcraft. This reduction in sound is made possible by several new design features, including a five-blade rotor system that uses Airbus’s BlueEdge blades to reduce the noise created by blade-vortex interaction. The Bluecopter also conserves fuel by allowing the operator to switch to “eco-mode” in flight, which turns off one engine while the other runs harder to make up the difference.
