Haptic Shoes

Haptic is a navigation shoe especially designed for visually-impaired people. It is equipped with Bluetooth, GPS and a vibrating system, which work together to guide the blind people to their destinations.

Once the user enters their destination on Google Map via their smartphone, the phone will then communicates by Bluetooth with LilyPad Arduino circuit board embedded in the heel of the shoe. After that, the phone will get the Arduino to activate the shoe’s four vibrations, letting them to move to guide the user on their way: vibrations on the left indicate that the users should turn left and the vibrations in front remind them to go straight forward, etc. A proximity sensor in the front of the shoe can alert the user to obstacles within three meters, so that the blind people would keep away from dangers.
