Smart cast
The most unsettling part of recovering from a broken arm is often the long healing process. Four, six, eight weeks - how long will it be before the orthopedist can rid you of that smelly plaster cast and determine how much, if at all, your muscles have atrophied?
Thanks to a revolutionary take on the traditional plaster cast, this itchy waiting game may soon be coming to an end.
Designed by Brazilian Pedro Nakazato Andrade, "Bones" is an orthopedic cast that uses embedded electromyographic (EMG) sensors to monitor in real time a patient's muscle-activity and then suggest exercises that one can do to speed up the recovery process.
