Projecting Injuries

A new device uses graphics and photographs to illustrate a patient's injury, which should encourage more diligent physical therapy.

The device was developed by teams from Virginia Tech and Microsoft, and consists of a digital webcam, a pico projector, and a near-infrared camera combined with a laser re-outfitted with an IR laser diode. Stock images of the injury are used to project an image of the injury directly on the patient, which helps increase the patient's understanding of their injury and increases the likelihood of the patient following up on their at-home physical therapy.
