SmartSkin

This project investigates a new sensor architecture for makinginteractive surfaces that are sensitive to human hand and fingergestures. This sensor recognizes multiple hand positions and theirshapes as well as calculates the distances between the hands and thesurface by using capacitive sensing and a mesh-shaped antenna. Incontrast to camera-based gesture recognition systems, all sensingelements can be integrated within the surface, and this method doesnot suffer from lighting and occlusion problems.
