StarSight : Solar Lighting, WIFI Internet, and Power Outlet in 1

A pilot project underway in Camerooncombines solar street lighting (something which can bring down crimerates dramatically), telecommunications and electric power in an urbannetwork of individual street lamps. The novel "Starsight" pyloncombines a WiFi connection with an independent photovoltaic panel thatcan also be connected to almost any kind of peripheral, a power outlet,a tsunami warming system, even a pollution monitor. A power outlet atthe base of a Starlight pylon will allow street vendors access forlighting, cooking or to charge mobile phones. Starsight costsabout the same to install as normal street lighting but without theneed for underground copper cabling, which is often stolen.
