Tree bark as insulation

The town hall of Melbourne (Australia) were designed by MickPearce. The project architect was called CH2 (Council House Two). Thebuilding, consisting of 9-storey offices and a trading on the groundfloor, was completed in 2006.

It's basically the same asthat of the Eastgate in Zimbabwe: the architecture and the visualexpression must adapt to the natural, sociocultural and economicenvironment, like an ecosystem in nature is an integral part of theuniverse.

CH2 gets its inspiration from the tree. The bark thereof constitutes an effectiveshield against wind and sun. The building was erected to that modelwith hatches of (recycled) wood in the West.

The wooden panels are driven by photovoltaic cells and open and close depending on the sun, just as flower leaves do that.
