Raised pavement and lowered ramp in one
A Greek technical design office has designed a new device to replace the kerb and the adjacent strip of pavement in front of garage entrances. The device is mainly made of galvanised sheet steel and incorporates a spring and shock absorber set. It is in the form of a step and has the shape of the kerb and pavement. When a car wheel applies pressure on it, it is instantly transformed into a ramp, thus allowing the car to enter (or exit from) the garage. Its geometry and motion characteristics are such as to allow it to function as a ramp only when pressed upon by a car wheel and not by force applied on it by a pedestrian. It is always used in pairs: one pair serving the left and the other serving the right set of vehicle wheels.
